Kristina and Frank – Mallard Island

I absolutely love this collection of photos from Kristina and Frank’s wedding - such a sweet couple, so cute and happy together. Mallard Island Yacht Club and and its neighbor Bonnet Island Estate are both stunning venues and each time there I discover new things. Like this time – how to balance on the edge of a pier, on one foot, while shooting portraits. Anything for a sunset (see last two photos).

Many thanks to Melissa at Pampered Bride Weddings and Linda at Rose Petals and Lace for making everything so beautiful. And of course to Kristina and Frank for being so perfect together. Congrats again!

Amber and Marc – Margate, NJ

I grew up hating the beach. Really hating it. My parents took me down for a few weeks every summer, for what I was sure was punishment for my school year transgressions. A month of endless sunburn, heat, mosquitoes and no friends. No air conditioning. One year my bike was stolen.

Things are different now. When our daughter was born, eight years ago, we started going down to Margate. She loved it. And so I loved it. I can sit on the sand with her for hours, take walks, swim, fly kites, play games. I’ve even started surfing. And beach weddings – love ‘em. The ocean, blue sky, the light - it doesn’t get much better. I’m sure that’s what Amber and Marc were thinking when they booked their wedding at Bonnet Island Estate for next year. Some people figure things out sooner than others. Below are a few pics from our engagement session last month. Can’t wait until the wedding next year!

Stephanie and Greg – The Downtown Club

Philadelphia is such a great backdrop for photos, and while I love hitting all the popular spots like Broad Street and the Art Museum, I also try to encourage clients to pick places that are meaningful and special to them, places entwined with their history together. Fortunately Stephanie and Greg’s relationship blossomed around the Art Museum, which has no shortage of terrific spots.

My own history as a newlywed is also linked to the Art Museum area. My wife and I bought our first house there and walked by Logan Square and Rembrandt’s daily, sitting on the same bench and at the same table as Stephanie and Greg are in the pics below – laughing, gazing and planning our future together. We’re now a few weeks away from celebrating our 11th anniversary, and I can’t help but look at these photos and feel warm and fuzzy.

The rest of the photos are from Old St. Joseph’s and The Downtown Club. We’re at both places constantly, and if you read this blog you’ll know how much I love shooting there. Couldn’t help but post Stephanie and Greg’s awesome thank you card too. Congrats again!

Meghan and Kevin – Villanova Conference Center

Meghan and Kevin got married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and then headed over to The Villanova Conference Center to celebrate. Beautiful grounds and an old stone mansion combined to make this setting the perfect backdrop for Meghan and Kevin’s photos. Below are a few of my favorites from the day. Congratulations again!

Hilary and Bret – College of Physicians

Bret assures me that the fact that he’s a physician had nothing to do with his wedding being held at The College of Physicians in Philadelphia. “That place? Where I have the meetings?” he said to Hilary when she suggested they get married there. Yep, that place, and it didn’t disappoint. Housing the Mutter Museum and a beautiful outdoor herb garden, and set up perfectly by Catering by Design, The College of Physicians is definitely one of the more unique and cooler sites to get married at downtown. Hilary and Bret were goofy and adorable (as expected) and obviously so in love. Congratulations!!!

Jane and Andrew – The Downtown Club

Spring weddings in the city really are special – a perfect mix of excitement, beauty and love that’s wonderful to be a part of. Everything took place at Old St. Joseph’s and The Downtown Club. They’re amazing settings and no matter how many times a year I’m there, they always inspire. What struck me most at this wedding was the way Jane and Andrew looked at each other and there are a lot of photos in this collection of those moments. They were so adoring; connected in a way that even in the midst of a crowd, their glances seemed to call out to one another. Enjoy!!!

Alison and Josh – The Downtown Club

Alison and Josh were childhood sweethearts. They went to middle school together and Josh asked Alison to be his date to the eighth grade dance. That was 14 years ago! Photographing their wedding, I kept imagining them not at The Downtown Club, but in the school gymnasium, a giddy Alison and slightly shy Josh, full of infatuation. Now, half their lives later and newly married, they were still together, classmates replaced by family and friends, infatuation by love.

Sarah and Chris – The Downtown Club

Usually, New Years is a time of introspection for me – a time to reflect on my family, career, accomplishments (and mistakes – one or two, tops). This year that was all put on hold though, for Sarah and Chris’s New Years Eve wedding. With Old Saint Mary’s Church bedecked in lights and trees, The Downtown Club even more beautiful and elegant than usual, and guests keyed up for the last/first party of the decade, Sarah and Chris’s wedding was the perfect way to end one year and begin the next.

Jennifer and Matthew – Canal Street Pub

The day started at Jennifer’s parents’ house, with a Vietnamese tea ceremony. Traditionally, these begin early in the morning at the groom’s house, with family and friends saying prayers over presents and food, which they then bring en masse to the bride’s house. I’ve photographed quite a few of these ceremonies and I’ve always been struck by their reverence for elders and ancestors, and that the day is a marriage of two families as well as two individuals. That, and no matter how big or small the room is, it’s always packed beyond measure!

Megan and Eric – Bonnet Island Estate

Megan and Eric wanted a laid back wedding at the beach surrounded by their family and close friends, so they did what any reasonable couple would do – they booked an entire island (with accommodations) and celebrated through the next day. And though this wedding felt beachy-relaxed, the scenery was absolutely breathtaking, crystallizing Megan and Eric’s bond with each other perfectly. So should you find yourself planning a wedding, and a far away isthmus simply will not do, remember Bonnet Island Estate – it’s without a doubt the only way to go.
